Our district town San Pedro Pochutla once a deserted nest, has since developed itself extremely well.
The town hall (Palacio Municipal) after many years of restoration is finally ready and the park (Zocalo) renewed. As well as that two new buildings were added, a pavilion and a small amphitheatre for local festivities.
With its growing population of 65000 Pochutla was presented in March 2003 with the title of Ciudad (town).
It also plays a major role as an ideal bus transfer and junction for traffic going in many directions such as Puerto Angel (12 km, 7.5 miles), Puerto Escondido (68 km, 43 miles), Oaxaca (238 km, 149 miles), Bahias de Huatulco (50 km, 31 miles) and Salina Cruz (210 km, 131 miles).
For most tourists a visit here is frequently connected with a bank transaction or some shopping. This is due to the fact that it is the nearest banking point to Puerto Angel and its supermarkets and vegetable stands offer a wider range of products.
Pochutla's big market day is an interesting spectacle and takes place on Monday's.
The 05th of February marks the beginning of a feast day that lasts a whole week.
